After multiple delays, the sequel to 2017’s Horizon Zero Dawn, Horizon Forbidden West, is finally available on PS4 and PS5. Just like its predecessor, Horizon Forbidden West features a massive open world playground where random dynamic encounters with ferocious machines are a common affair.
As a hunter, Aloy has plenty of tools at her disposal all the time to take on any and every foe that comes her way. However, to be more effective in combat, you must unlock the necessary skills to complement the different weapons. Investing in the right skills early on in the game can make a significant difference to the gameplay. Interestingly, Horizon Forbidden West offers six different skill trees that you can progress. They are Warrior, Trapper, Hunter, Survivor, Infiltrator, and Machine Master. Out of these six skill trees, here are five skills that we believe you must unlock early on in Horizon Forbidden West.
Early Skills to unlock in Horizon Forbidden West
Concentration+ (Hunter)

Horizon Forbidden West’s precision-based ranged combat can take a while to get used to, and, as such, unlocking the Concentration+ skill should be your first priority. This will allow you to slow down time for a longer time while aiming, which is essential for hitting those machines’ weak points.
Quick Trapper (Survivor)

Early on, you will learn how to place traps in Horizon Forbidden West that do significant damage to smaller machines like the Burrowers. However, it takes painstakingly long to place a trap, not to mention that it leaves you open to attacks. The Quick Trapper skill allows you to place traps faster which can be crucial in the heat of the battle.
Concentration Regen (Hunter)

Since Bow is your primary weapon in Horizon Forbidden West, it’s essential to acquire skills associated with it first. Concentration Regen skill will increase the recovery speed for your concentration, which in return will allow you to slow down time and target enemy weak points quickly without long gaps in between.
Resonator Blast (Warrior)

The spear in Horizon Forbidden West feels much more satisfying to use than in Horizon Zero Dawn, and, as such, you will be using it a lot to take out the smaller machines and human enemies. The Resonator Blast skill does heavy damage that is unlike anything that was present in Zero Dawn.
Nora Warrior (Warrior)

Since the Spear feels more effective this time around, having a combo skill that does decent damage from up close is game-changing. The Nora Warrior skill feels like a breath of fresh air and makes the melee combat more of a hack n slash affair.
