Arkham games in Chronological and Release Order
The Arkham games have a strong collection of titles, spanning over ten years of game releases since the first entry Batman: Arkham Asylum hit consoles in 2009. As with any video game sequel, subsequent releases in the Batman: Arkham series featured upgraded tech, showing off the capabilities of the next-gen consoles they released on.

In order of release, the Arkham games are:
- Batman: Arkham Asylum
- Batman: Arkham City
- Batman: Arkham Origins
- Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate
- Batman: Arkham Knight
The upcoming Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is considered part of the Arkham universe, but at this time it’s unclear if it’ll be connected to the Arkham story, so we’ll leave it out of the lists.
Playing the games in release order is fine, but the Arkham games feature a rich story that is best experienced from beginning to end. Each title has a wonderfully interconnected story, leading one game into the next, but Arkham Origins serves as a prequel to the series right in the middle of the release order.

Because of this, it’s best to play these games in chronological order, which would be;
- Batman: Arkham Origins – Taking place early in Batman’s career, the young vigilante must fight off eight assassins as Blackmask puts a bounty on his head.
- Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate – A sequel to Arkham Origins, Batman must help stop a riot at Blackgate prison. This game is different from the other Arkham games, being a side scrolling beat-em-up as opposed to its usual 3d action game style.
- Batman: Arkham Asylum – The original Arkham game. After returning the Joker to Arkham Asylum, Batman quickly realizes that he was tricked as a riot breaks out in the asylum. With the asylum staff overwhelmed, Batman must stop the Joker and all of the other iconic escaped villains.
- Batman: Arkham City – Framed for a murder he didn’t commit, Bruce Wayne is arrested and sent to Arkham City, a new walled off section of Gotham made to house the increasing number of inmates. As Batman, Bruce must prove his innocence while also racing to cure a mysterious new disease.
- Batman: Arkham Knight – Arkham is under siege. The Scarecrow has taken the city hostage with a new bioweapon. He’s also teamed up with the mysterious Arkham Knight, who knows all of Batman’s tricks, and has equipped an army of mercenaries with stolen Waynetech. Batman must defeat the Arkham Knight, stop the Scarecrow, and wrestle with his own inner demons in this exciting finale to the Arkham series.
