Apex Legends, Respawn Entertainment’s free to play battle royale, just released a new cinematic trailer teasing the upcoming season “Arsenal” and new legend Ballistic. Today’s trailer picks up right where the recent Story from the Outlands left off, with Ballistic leaving a message for his son and showcasing expertise in the games.

The new trailer also revealed that a full gameplay reveal is slated for May 1st, 2023, with the tagline “Show Your Caliber”. You can watch the full Arsenal launch trailer on the Apex Legends YouTube channel:

Today’s trailer really leans into Ballistic’s age, setting the stage with the old school charm of “Beyond the Sea” throughout, and smaller moments like Ballistic awkwardly misunderstanding Newcastle’s fist bump. The competition also underestimates Ballistic quite a bit, and he gets the chance to impress with his experience.

Overall, the cinematic is upbeat, cheerful, and amusing. The writers consistently demonstrate great characterization, and do a good job of establishing emerging relationships as new legends are introduced. Not to mention all of the fun one-liners, which are generally decent.

And although today’s teaser doesn’t show any actual gameplay footage, which has been reserved for next week, Ballistic still got an opportunity to show off his abilities.

In the meantime, players can enjoy the Veiled Collection Event, which rolled out just yesterday and adds a new limited-time mode called Deadeye. If you missed it, here’s the event trailer on Apex Legends’ YouTube channel:

Gameplay will make it much clearer if Ballistic’s balancing and abilities will affect the current meta or not. So, the next trailer is sure to intrigue longtime fans the most, but it’s always nice to take a liking to your new legend beforehand.
