Respawn Entertainment’s free-to-play battle royale shooter Apex Legends has revealed an all-new trailer today, ahead of season 16. In one of the biggest announcements yet, it introduced the Season 16 title “Revelry”, an all-new weapon, and the stunning news that Team Deathmatch from the mobile version will finally be added to the core game.

A gameplay trailer of the upcoming season was also set for February 8th, 2023. You can watch today’s cinematic trailer on Apex Legends’ official YouTube channel here:

Although the “Launch” title of the trailer was clearly meant to acknowledge and celebrate the original launch date of the game in February 2019, it did invite the fans to make a lot of hilarious (and rather justified) jokes about the game leaving Beta and releasing in full.

However, today’s trailer was very promising, nonetheless. Battle Royale is a very niche game mode and Arenas has been relatively broken, and arguably less popular, since the beginning.

Aside from returning LTMs like Winter Express and Control Mode, players haven’t had much content period. Until recently, Apex Legends has made a habit of relying on cosmetics over content, emphasizing collection events and recolors with astronomical prices.

Team Deathmatch has had the opportunity to smooth out some of its hiccups over on the mobile game, so it seems the devs finally feel it’s prepared enough to reach older fans. Team Deathmatch will open up the game to a much wider audience. There are many who don’t prefer the RNG, matchmaking impact, or length of battle royale matches.

Although there was no gameplay today, fans also got a look at the anticipated “Nemesis” weapon, and they also got the first dev diary in a very long time. Though brief, you can check it out here:

There has been a lot of criticism over the lack of communication for Apex Legends. Hopefully, between Team Deathmatch and today’s dev diary, Apex Legends is entering a new chapter that will renew interest and reward fans.
