Apex Legends continues to pump out more content than ever with the upcoming Veiled Collection Event, which introduces more cosmetics and a new limited-time twist on Team Deathmatch called “Deadeye”. This LTM will remove armor and helmets and restrict player loadouts, in a race to 50 kills.
The cosmetics will add Caustic’s Prestige Skin, “Apex Contagion”, as well as reward track items for the event. The Veiled Collection Event rolls out on April 25th, 2023. You can watch today’s new trailer on the Apex Legends YouTube channel:
Although some fans are still disappointed with how much cosmetics are being emphasized, longtime players will recognize the significant difference in content volume these days. The new season’s addition of Mixtape was sorely needed, as fans waited for holidays to get an alternative to Battle Royale gameplay. Arenas just wasn’t enough, and suffered so badly that it was shut down altogether.
Deadeye is basically a blend of Halo’s SWAT mode and Armed and Dangerous, featuring a lower TTK and powerful ranged weapons to reward accuracy. Of course, a hardcore mode like Deadeye is probably going to highlight TDM’s faults, such as the atrocious matchmaking.
Deadeye matches are going to end very quickly, and inferior teams are likely to become overwhelmed, despite the frustrating spawning in Overflow. But Deadeye is also going to improve the pacing of TDM, and evenly matched games will be a real treat.
Hopefully, the devs will invest in something a little more creative for Mixtape in the future, though it’s easy to understand why tinkering with existing LTMs is more convenient.
The cosmetics for the event are decent, as usual, but Caustic’s Prestige Skin is a real standout. Regardless of the unjust pricing, the digital face mask and Reptile-style finisher is undeniably appealing. Also, Wattson’s elaborate and flamboyant new skin is much appreciated, since she’s often unfairly overlooked.
