Apex Legends has officially revealed the new legend August Brinkman, “Ballistic”, and their motivation for joining the games in a cinematic backstory. Today’s SFTO also closed with an announcement that Season 17 would be titled “Arsenal”, and it’s getting an official reveal trailer later this week on April 26th, 2023.

Apex Legends has been busy lately. Just last week, Respawn released a trailer for the Veiled Collection event, which will introduce Caustic’s Prestige Skin and the new limited-time mode Deadeye. The new season has had more content than ever thanks to Mixtape. And now that a class system has tidied up the legend roster, it’ll be very interesting to see how Ballistic fits in.
Today’s cinematic introduces a much older legend than usual, which further expands the game’s representation. The relationship between Ballistic and his son remains surface-level for now, but it’s an interesting foundation. It makes a lot of sense that Brinkman hopes to protect his son from heading down the same path, letting the games chew him up and spit him out.
Of course, Ballistic was accidentally shown off a little early by Respawn Entertainment themselves, wielding that interesting smart pistol. In today’s cinematic, Ballistic is clearly able to nerf enemy weapons, which is sort of an alternative to Revenant’s tactical. It’s nothing that will revolutionize the game meta, but like any offensive character, it should at least be fun to play.
Although it’s nice to have new legends, hopefully the devs will commit to resolving current issues like matchmaking, as well as Mixtape’s flaws. According to the new official page, “Arsenal” seems to be focusing on other features, including changes for World’s Edge, the Firing Range, and Ranked.
