It appears that fans of the critically acclaimed animated TV series based on the League of Legends Runeterra universe, Arcane, will have to wait until next year before the second season premieres on Netflix, as suggested by recent reports.
The first season of Arcane was proved to be a tremendous success, delving into the origin of two iconic League champions, Vi and Jinx, set in the utopian Piltover and the oppressed underground of Zaun. It also expands on many hidden lore of Riot Games’ video game franchise, appealing to both longtime fans and newcomers.
Recently, a League of Legends dataminer shared on X that Arcane Season 2 will premiere in the fourth quarter of 2024, around the Winter season. This revelation was allegedly announced during the Tencent Video V Vision Conference. The report was supported by a photograph, showcasing a prominent “Arcane League of Legends Season 2” backdrop on the conference stage.
Riot Games CEO Nicolo Laurent has previously assured fans that, unlike the first season, it won’t take six years before the second season is released. However, he also clarified that Arcane Season 2 would not premiere in 2022, and no follow-up reports indicated a 2023 release.
Back in 2022, co-showrunner Christian Linke and producer Alex Yee hosted a Reddit AMA as part of Arcane‘s one-year anniversary celebration, answering some of the burning questions of fans and even dropping some hints about the second season. Linke revealed that the scripts for season 2 were already completed at that time, although “some amount of tweaks” would also happen throughout the process.
When asked by a fan to describe Arcane Season 2 in one word, Yee responded by choosing the word “forgiveness,” while Linke described it as “war.” Yee’s response heavily implies a possible reconciliation between the sisters Vi and Jinx, while Linke’s answer hints at a full-blown war between Piltover and Zaun. In terms of the characters appearing in the next season, other League champions making their TV series debut is also not out of the question.
Currently, neither Riot Games nor Netflix has made an official statement, confirming that Arcane Season 2 will premiere in the Winter season of 2024. Nonetheless, there may still be a chance it will be released earlier than anticipated, so fans are encouraged to patiently await an official update.
