Damian Wayne’s turn as the Dark Knight may have been cut short before it even began. Josh Keaton, the voice actor best known for his portrayal of Robin in Batman: Arkham Origins, has revealed he was cast as Damian Wayne in a now-canceled Batman game codenamed Project Sabbath. While this isn’t Arkham, it could have been a better version of Gotham Knights.
Keaton’s claims stem from a recent live stream, where he shared details about the project’s unfortunate fate (Thanks PC GamesN). According to the actor, he had already completed several voice-over sessions before leaks exposed the game’s development, including his casting and the unique twist of featuring Damian Wayne as Batman. Keaton believes these leaks are what ultimately led to the project’s cancellation.
“Everything about the game got leaked on some forum and they ended up shutting it down. I’d done like three or four sessions on it, and that was the end of that game. Bummer, thanks leaks… The leaks killed the project.”
Josh Keaton
Intriguingly, Keaton clarified that Project Sabbath was not part of the established Arkhamverse, further fueling speculation about the game’s developer and intended direction. WB Games Montréal, the team behind Gotham Knights, has been suggested as a possibility, but Keaton’s stream offered no concrete confirmation.
While the validity of Keaton’s claims remains unverified, his comments make you think about the real effect of leaks. The potential impact of leaks on game development has long been a point of contention, and Project Sabbath’s cancellation, if true, would serve as a stark example of the real-world consequences such breaches can have. Additionally, the prospect of a Damian Wayne-led Batman game adds another layer of intrigue to the story, leaving fans to wonder what could have been.
There are a lot of people who really think developers leak games on purpose all the time. That’s not true at all, and I’m not sure why anyone would think that. It does happen once in a blue moon, but it is a bad day when a leak happens. Marketing is expensive and requires a lot of research and planning, and leaks ruin their plans. It’s like spending tons of money to make sure everything happens the way you want it, but leaks give you no control and ruin hype.
For now, we won’t know what happened with Project Sabbath. I would have loved to see Damien Wayne as Batman, though.
Total BS
A game like that doesn’t get cancelled because of leaks. The game must not have been up to snuff.
