Armored Core has been absent for far too long, to the point that some players may be unfamiliar altogether. Armored Core V was somewhat divisive when it originally launched around a decade ago, and it would be a delight if the new sequel were balanced enough to strike up a fresh fanbase and renew interest in longtime fans.

Fortunately, today’s trailer is sure to please and smartly paced. It’s full of action spectacle, but also a surprising amount of cinematics, many of which concentrate on all of the new lore players can expect. While narrative is hardly the highlight of these games, there’s a lot of intriguing worldbuilding here, which is important to inform new kinds of action.

Armored Core VI already boasts sleek and stylish visuals that are more refined than ever, particularly regarding the highly detailed environments. There’s a wide variety on display, from closed industrial battles to epic landscapes. Many are larger in scope than expected.

The combat sequences look consistent with previous titles, though some mechanics have evolved naturally. There’s a lot of ambition in this title, and that’s what the franchise sorely needed. Ideally, the devs have taken bold strides in all of the right directions, without losing the series’ signature personality.
