When Armored Core VI first revealed a release date, the accompanying trailer spent a lot of time on cinematics with some underwhelming performances. But the action looked promising as ever, and today’s new trailer shows how much the series’ combat and movement will benefit from modern advancements.

There’s plenty of fluidity in the movement, which has played a large role in Armored Core’s appeal. Whether you’re coasting across the map, or lunging into an attack, there’s a distinguishable sense of momentum and weight.

This adds a visible impact every time an enemy goes flying or takes damage. It also introduces new layers of strategy in each combat scenario, as players must evade fire and select the right opportunity to retaliate. There are dives, dashes, slides, and lots of melee. This hints that your battles shouldn’t begin to feel so redundant, which has been a frequent point of contention.

However, upgrading your Armored Core is a highlight of the series, allowing players to meticulously adjust their stats and look. Fortunately, the assembly options in today’s trailer are also neat. Armored Core has been absent for a while, but Fires of Rubicon has some serious potential to renew interest.
