The video game industry is going through a tough time, with some well-known companies closing down and people losing their jobs. However, Capcom, a big game company from Japan, is doing really well. They’re making more money than ever, and their sales are breaking records.

Capcom seems to be doing well because they’re making popular sequels to games people love. They’ve still got another big game that is guaranteed to make a ton of money: Monster Hunter. Other studios have new games coming out that people are really excited about, but they’re still hurting, as we’ve seen from Microsoft and WB.

According to IGN, Capcom’s financial year ending on March 31, 2024, marked a new company record with 45.89 million units sold. The strong performance was attributed to successful releases like Street Fighter 6 (3.3 million units sold) and Dragon’s Dogma 2 (2.62 million units sold). Moreover, Capcom’s older titles also contributed to its robust sales. Both net sales and profits displayed significant year-on-year growth.

Capcom anticipates increased sales and profits in the coming fiscal year, potentially surpassing current records. This forecast is likely based on the upcoming release of Monster Hunter Wilds, scheduled for 2025, and the heavily speculated development of Resident Evil 9, the next installment in the popular survival horror series. It seems like they just can’t lose for now.

Capcom’s Dragon’s Dogma 2 surpassed its predecessor’s sales in just 11 days, while the original game took a month to achieve the same feat. This could signal growing fan interest and bode well for other franchises like Monster Hunter to achieve similar success. Capcom tends to do very well on PlayStation, which focuses on game sales over their monthly plus catalog. From what we hear, Microsoft may not offer any of these kinds of titles on their subscription service after some issues from there.

The Monster Hunter series is of great significance to Capcom. Monster Hunter World, released in 2018, is the company’s top-selling game, with sales nearing 20 million units. Capcom will likely match or exceed this success with the upcoming Monster Hunter Wilds. Capcom seems too big to fail at this point.
