It’s been a tumultuous year for Twitch, with some of its biggest streamers moving to the fledgling program Kick and now an entire organization is threatening to leave following new ad rules. These rules were posted earlier today, with streamers going live to talk about it shortly after.
Asmongold and the OTK organization have been the most noticeable figures to threaten to leave the platform following the announcement, but it’s likely these won’t be the last. Especially when this new rule change comes after many have been complaining about Twitch in the last year. It seems that changing the ad rules to limit third-party banners and other options is a change too far for some.
While those were the only ones who’ve threatened to leave so far, other popular streaming personalities also chimed in with their takes on the subject. MoistCr1TiKaL states that this is just a long line of bad decisions from the streaming platform.
It’s something that’s being noticed by streamers across the industry, with some claiming that the only way they’re able to pay for the content they put on is by working with partnerships outside of Twitch. Esports commentator VikkiKitty points out that tournaments usually have outside sponsors unrelated to Twitch to fund them, with Twitch not funding these events ahead of time.
QTCinderella has complained that these new changes have come on her birthday, and now she won’t be able to run her ads. As a member of Misfits Gaming, this means that at least one other organization is taking notice of these changes.
Even Mr. Beast has threatened to stream on a competitor to spite Twitch, stating he’s angry at what they’ve done and he’d “lose his mind” if YouTube did something similar.
