After a long period of no updates, Ubisoft developers have finally confirmed the presence of a cryptic post-credits scene in Assassin’s Creed Mirage. Although the scene was incomplete and never made it into the actual game, fans are still curious about how it fits into the series’ larger narrative.

We’ve covered it before when some unused content was discovered to try and understand it. We reported on a discovery made by dataminers has revealed an unexpected sight within the game’s historical backdrop: a radio mast in the desert. Furthermore, the unearthed content includes an audio exchange between two Abstergo employees, set centuries in the future, as they discuss the events of Mirage and allude to a potential worldwide crisis.

That was a significant change in the “modern-day” storyline, which has traditionally centered on the present day. Fans once loved that storyline, but as the games went on, it became less interesting as they moved away from established themes. The present-day storyline, for many, became the worst part of the games. This lead to the future may have meant that Ubisoft gave up on it entirely.

In a recent Reddit AMA found by Eurogamer, Mirage’s art director, Jean-Luc Sala, made an enigmatic statement about the scene: “All we can say is that what’s not in your playthrough does not exist,” followed by a winking emoji. This response is pretty clear. The scene that was datamined was cut and does not exist. The game is not set in the future.

The timing of this revelation is interesting because it aligns with the upcoming release of Assassin’s Creed Codename Red, signifying a significant comeback for the series. It’s feasible that the scene in question might be released around the launch of Red, preparing the ground for an updated present-day storyline within the new Assassin’s Creed Infinity platform.

Ubisoft has announced that Mirage will not be getting any DLC. However, they have plans to further develop Basim’s story in the Assassin’s Creed universe. Basim was okay, but many fans would agree that Bayek deserved more content. We’ll have to wait and see where it all goes.
