The lead voice actors of 2017’s popular Assassin’s Creed Origins are making a public plea for a sequel to the well-received game. Abubakar Salim, who voiced the protagonist Bayek, and Alix Wilton Regan, the voice behind Aya, have expressed a strong desire to revisit their beloved characters and continue their unfinished story arcs. Many fans have also requested this since the publisher moved to Odyssey.
Salim took a lighthearted approach to the topic, tweeting that perhaps he should start his own studio to develop an Assassin’s Creed Origins sequel. Regan followed up with a more direct comment: “The story of Aya & Bayek is unfinished.” This sentiment resonates with fans who feel the complex characters have much more to offer within the Assassin’s Creed universe.
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey was great, but the series has veered back off course from what it was. We went from a well-developed story and characters to 40% of players not even getting past the prologue of Valhalla. That shows how dull Ubisoft’s old flagship franchise has gotten—again. Assassin’s Creed Origins was a great game and revitalized the series; they need to go back.
Assassin’s Creed Origins explored the origin story of the Assassin’s Brotherhood through Bayek and Aya’s quest for revenge after the tragic murder of their son. However, despite Aya’s significant role in the narrative, Bayek served as the primary protagonist. Years after the game’s release, a Bloomberg report alleged that Aya was initially intended to have a much more prominent role within the game, potentially even taking over as the main character after Bayek’s death. Those are just rumors, though.
Though Bayek and Aya’s story was slightly expanded through post-launch DLCs (The Hidden Ones and The Curse of the Pharaohs), fans and actors alike continue to clamor for a full-fledged sequel. Regan’s tweet has ignited hope within the Assassin’s Creed community, fueling speculation about where a sequel could take these characters and what historical setting they might explore. The outpouring of fan support and renewed interest could potentially persuade Ubisoft to revisit the concept and consider greenlighting a project that would continue the legacy of Origins.
While there’s no guarantee that Ubisoft will entertain the idea, the renewed interest and outspoken passion from both the actors and the fan community demonstrate the lasting impact of Bayek and Aya’s story. Whether a sequel ever materializes remains to be seen, but the desire and potential are undeniably present. Perhaps this is the beginning of a renewed campaign that will bring these beloved characters back to the intricate world of Assassin’s Creed.
