Atari, a consumer brand and interactive entertainment producer, has announced the acquisition of over 100 classic PC and console games from the 1980s and 1990s. The collection features popular titles such as Bubsy, Hardball, Demolition Racer, 1942: Pacific Air War, F-117A, and the F-14 air combat series. The company plans to broaden the digital and physical distribution of these classic titles, develop new games based on the acquired IP, and explore potential branding and merchandising collaborations.

Atari CEO Wade Rosen highlighted the importance of this acquisition, stating, “This is a deep catalog that includes groundbreaking and award-winning titles from Accolade, Infogrames, and Microprose.” Rosen mentioned that many of these games have a strong connection to Atari’s history, and fans can anticipate re-releases in both digital and physical formats, with some titles potentially being ported to modern consoles.

In addition to the game titles, Atari has also acquired the trademarks for the Accolade and GTI brands. Accolade was a prominent US-based video game developer and publisher from 1984 until 2000.

This acquisition is part of Atari’s ongoing multi-year effort to transform the company and expand its video game business. By leveraging its extensive catalog of IP, Atari aims to release classic games and introduce new, high-quality games to the market. Atari’s vast library of IP serves as a source of inspiration for reinventing old classics, reimagining storylines, and developing new narratives inspired by the games that shaped the gaming industry.
