Atlas Fallen, the upcoming action RPG from Deck13 and publisher Focus Entertainment, has released an extensive new 5-minute trailer that delves into the full combat system players can expect. It explores how players can use two main weapons, mix combat styles, build momentum and more.

Atlas Fallen is slated to launch on August 10th, 2023. It will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. You can watch today’s new combat trailer on the Focus Entertainment YouTube channel:

Atlas Fallen previously mentioned the Momentum mechanic and Essence Stones in a recent “Behind the Sand” showcase, but the devs didn’t fully explain how Momentum works. Players can build momentum to unleash different special attacks. However, the devs smartly made players with high momentum more vulnerable, trading defense for power to demand a little more strategy.

The enemies function more or less as you might expect, where tougher creatures have more complex movement, and will drop key resources for upgrading akin to Monster Hunter.

Atlas Fallen continues to emphasize flexibility. Players can choose two different main weapons, multiple styles, and use Essence Stones to build the character they want like a deck-builder. They can be used to acquire special attacks like projectiles, sandstorms, falling hammers, and even a simple leap.

It would’ve been nice if the trailer didn’t gloss over the weapons, though, since it’d be interesting to see if the whip isn’t just a blunt object.

Aside from all of the customization, the biggest draw of Atlas Fallen might be its co-op. Perhaps the most compelling reveal today is that Essence Stones were designed with cooperative combat in mind. They’re expected to have synergies that play off each other, and players can also heal or “protect each other”.
