Developer and publisher Atlus has just announced that themed events will be hosted in Los Angeles and London to celebrate the release of Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden. The Los Angeles event will be held on January 18th, at 8:30 PM. London will hold its event on January 20th, at 6 PM.
It’s the first time these hit RPGs will be available on “modern platforms”. RSVPs aren’t mandatory but encouraged, and Atlus eventually fixed the broken RSVP link for LA later in the thread:
Today’s announcement from Atlus is sort of a surprise, since these aren’t brand-new titles, which would arguably warrant live events a little more. However, the Persona franchise has always been an absolute juggernaut, and Atlus was even strict about preventing spoilers for the re-release of Persona 5 Royal.
It’s nice that Atlus has selected both Los Angeles and London, allowing more deserving fans to join in without some intense globetrotting. Following the holidays, that would probably be annoying.
Persona 3 Portable took the series in a wildly different direction for its release on the PlayStation Portable, which was a short-lived but underrated mobile console. The upcoming launch will be a “remaster”, though it remains unclear just how much will be adjusted for improvements, aside from the obligatory visual enhancements.
The same is true for Persona 4 Golden, which didn’t just set a high bar for the quality of the game content itself, but also for its hugely successful port. Fans and critics alike were blown away by the features in the PC port from 2020. The upcoming re-release will need to add quite a lot in order to justify itself, or at least live up to the previous adaptation.
