Swen Vincke, the director behind the critically acclaimed Dungeons and Dragons RPG Baldur’s Gate 3, has announced that he will scale back his discussions about the game’s development. His upcoming talk at the Digital Dragons conference in Poland, entitled “Taming the Tadpole,” is expected to be one of the final times he will publicly address the development process of Baldur’s Gate 3.
Since the game came out last summer, Vincke has been giving talks and presentations at big industry events like The Game Awards, BAFTA, and GDC. He seems to think he’s talked about nearly everything related to the game’s development journey. It’s hard to say otherwise. Baldur’s Gate 3 was a huge hit, and everyone seems to want to know the secret.
Vincke said on X (formerly Twitter) that he wants to work on new projects and focus on different things. This talk will be one of his last. We know that Larian Studios won’t be making Baldur’s Gate 4 or any expansions for the current Baldur’s Gate 3, showing a shift away from the Dungeons & Dragons franchise.
The studio previously said it is working on two new games based on its own ideas. However, Vincke mentioned that he’s very excited about the future projects, but they will take some time. This means we may not hear much about these new games for a while.
