Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden, the supernatural action RPG from DON’T NOD, has just released about 15 full minutes of new gameplay in an extended trailer. It was revealed as part of Focus Entertainment’s previously announced showcase, which was also slated to show off more of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2.
Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden recently set a release date for November 7th, 2023. It will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. You can watch today’s extended trailer on the Focus Entertainment YouTube channel:
Publisher Focus Entertainment has struggled with its action RPG Atlas Fallen, which recently released earlier this month and has been met with highly mixed reviews. You can read our own full review for details about some of its missteps.
However, DON’T NOD has been a strongly reliable developer, who is best known for hits like Vampyr and Life is Strange. Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden’s attitude appears to be a compelling blend of those two successes, continuing to concentrate on narrative heft and flashy thrills alike. The devs have earned lots of trust, and the premise alone has lots of potential.
Today’s extended trailer properly teases the kind of pacing that fans can expect. There seems to be a fairly balanced approach, letting the dialogue breathe, and the story seems to motivate the action sequences. Fortunately, the voice performances are decent.
While the visuals could probably stand some polishing, the art design looks terrific, with interesting creatures and a gloomy mood. Banishers really sells the notion that both its world and characters are haunted.
There seems to be plenty of lore to unpack, as today’s trailer reveals there will even be tidbits of history for the gear you’ll be using. Ideally, the combat will be as engaging as the story. The new footage does explore a better volume of objective content than the Gamescom preview, and should help fans decide to invest.
