The developers of Battlefield 2042 made a post saying the game will not be getting a Season 8. This season is basically the conclusion of significant content updates. General Manager Byron Beede announced that Season 7 will be the last official season for the game. The team will be moving on to the future of the series with a new team coming to help.
The post detailed plans to continue supporting the current title so it can stay alive. Although there won’t be any more seasons, Battlefield 2042 will still get support in the form of bug fixes, maintenance, smaller in-game events, challenges, and modes. The post spoke about how people would be disappointed but wanted to move forward with the future of the series.
“While we’ve enjoyed and are proud of creating these seasons of additional content for Battlefield 2042, it is now necessary for us to turn from the present to the future. What this ultimately means is that Season 7 will serve as the final season for Battlefield 2042. After Season 7 concludes, we will continue to support the game with new in-game challenges, events, modes, and of course, ongoing maintenance, but we are moving away from delivering official seasons.”

It’s well known that Battlefield 2042 didn’t meet EA’s expectations. The game is constantly clowned on, and it isn’t a good entry in the series as a whole. It makes a lot of sense that the team would move on, and they probably should have done so sooner.
This involves a new direction for the franchise, focusing on class-based squad play and intense large-scale battles. To help with this, the Battlefield development team is welcoming accomplished developers Motive Studio. The studio is known for its work on the recent Dead Space remake and Star Wars: Squadrons. While those aren’t the biggest or particularly well-received games, it shows they know how to work with the Frostbite Engine.
Motive Studio is teaming up with current Battlefield developers DICE, Criterion, and Ripple Effect to develop a connected Battlefield universe featuring experiences across multiplayer and single-player modes. The details of the upcoming Battlefield title have not been disclosed yet. However, we hope it returns to the roots that made Battlefield so well-liked.
If you are going to end content for this game, at least bring back all of the maps from previous seasons and make them playable.
