EA’s Battlefield 2042 has been marred with a variety of complaints from players, which include problems with the Specialists, size of maps, visuals, and the lack of content. While some will brush off complaints, the player count dropping significantly just a couple months after launch is proof enough that these problems were not just superficial.
While the game has been improved with small patches since release, nothing major has been added to the game until now. The Season 1 update has brought many improvements and some new content, which includes the new map Exposure. It is a mountainous area that features some high-tech stealth helicopters to pilot.
This has at least resonated with some players, as the player count on Steam has spiked to above 14,000 at the time of this writing. This brings the level back up to around where it was in December 2021, just a month after launch.

While this is good news for the game, we obviously don’t know how long it will hold. Players have been expressing their displeasure about the release and the lack of content updates. The patch is a step in the right direction, but it will need sustained content to keep up the momentum. Most games experience a bump during an update, so it remains to be seen if players maintain their interest in Battlefield 2042 going forward.
