In a recent Twitter thread, a Bethesda Game Studios veteran developer Emil Pagliarulo shared his story of how he started his career at the company and what they like about working there. He also talked about his experience working on Starfield and how he felt about the game’s reception.

Pagliarulo started by sharing a personal story about meeting a fan who has been playing Bethesda games since Morrowind. This reminded the developer of their own time as a fan, and how Bethesda games have always been different from other games. The developer went on to describe Bethesda games as “worlds to live in” rather than games to be beaten. They also talk about how the first-person perspective of Bethesda games makes the players feel like they are truly part of the world.

I love Bethesda games, and Starfield was a real return to what I enjoyed so much about Oblivion, as that’s where I came in. Definitely one of my favorite games. This developer seemed to love the company too. Pagliarulo said that he loves working at Bethesda Game Studios because of the creative freedom that his team is given. He also said he appreciated the company’s focus on making games that are fun to play and that offer players a lot of freedom to explore.

What’s cool is that this developer was a gaming journalist before becoming a developer, even previewing games. Pagliarulo said that he is very proud of what he achieved with Starfield. He said that his team pushed themselves to the limit to create a new world that fans can live in.
The reception of Starfield even reinvigorated his love of world creation and game development.

The full Tweet will show exactly what he said, and a good bit of tidbits, but it’s clear that Pagliarulo is happy with what he’s created. I am personally thankful to Bethesda’s team because Starfield is one of my favorite games of all time, up there with Fallout: New Vegas.
