Bethesda Game Studios has announced its largest update yet for Starfield. In a tweet announcing the update, they claim over 100 fixes and improvements are scheduled to land in Steam Beta on January 17, 2024. A full release for all players is slated for two weeks later.

According to the tweet thread, this hefty update tackles several community concerns, primarily focusing on quest bug fixes. The notorious “Eye of the Storm” questline, plagued by issues like undocking problems with the Legacy and stalled data transfer, will finally see these roadblocks cleared. Similarly, “Into the Unknown” will receive a fix for missing temples, ensuring smoother Constellation exploration.

Stability improvements are also on the agenda, alongside a generous helping of graphical enhancements. Players can expect wider widescreen support, sharper textures, and a revised lighting and shadow system. Bethesda even shared a before-and-after image showcasing the visual upgrade. We used it as our featured image so you can see it without needing to look through tweets.

Beyond these highlights, the update addresses a laundry list of smaller bugs and glitches. Sun disk geometry, planet ring shadows, respawning bulldozed objects, inaccessible ship hatches, and persistent asteroid tailgaters are all set to become relics of the past. For a comprehensive list of changes, players will have to wait for the full update notes arriving alongside the Steam Beta launch.

There were a lot of people disappointed in how bad Starfield was at release. The game is fun, but so many issues make it less than playable at times. This update is supposed to be the biggest one and has been teased for a while in small ways by Bethesda. Hopefully, this helps, but I was hoping the update would include additions to the gameplay. Everything feels like it’s missing so much, but this is really just to fix the bugs and add some things that likely should have been available at launch.
