Weather Factory, the BAFTA-nominated indie studio and bizarre art collective, revealed today that their upcoming dark academia RPG, Book of Hours, is scheduled to launch on Steam and GOG on August 17th, 2023. The game has developed from a lighthearted tweet into a spiritual successor to their award-winning indie hit, Cultist Simulator.

Set in a world of hidden gods and secret histories during the 1930s, Book of Hours is a narrative crafting RPG that tasks players with restoring a crumbling occult library while curating a collection of grimoires and arcana. This gently gothic narrative sim is the latest creation from Alexis Kennedy, the original creator of Fallen London and Sunless Sea.

Alexis Kennedy, one half of Weather Factory’s husband-and-wife team, described the immersive world of Book of Hours, where players can investigate the intricate details of their surroundings, uncovering hidden memories and engaging with unique elements such as a snootle jar and an umbrella stand.

Lottie Bevan, the other half of the team, expressed eagerness to launch the game they’ve been developing on and off since 2019. Book of Hours immerses players in a world where they must rebuild Hush House, a once-great fortress of knowledge destroyed by a fire. As the new Librarian, players will determine how history is written, with their influence reaching far beyond the walls of Hush House.

Key features of Book of Hours include organizing books, customizing the player’s new home, unearthing centuries of history, acquiring and cataloguing occult items, studying the nine Wisdoms, guiding visitors, exploring Secret Histories, and restoring an ancient abbey. Players can also choose from nine different Legacies that shape their in-game identity, such as Magnate, Archaeologist, Symurgist, or Twiceborn.

As the release date of Book of Hours approaches, sages, seekers, and librarians-in-training can wishlist the game on Steam in anticipation of its August 17th, 2023 launch on both Steam and GOG.
