Dylan Gafner, who has been Bungie’s Senior Community Manager for years, has decided to part ways as of December 30th, 2022. A full statement from Gafner suggests that they parted ways with Bungie on very good terms, including plenty of praise for the company.

Gafner states that he’s simply “thinking of embracing a new direction”, and also hinted at the possibility of leaving the gaming industry altogether. Here’s the full announcement in Gafner’s tweet, which thanks Bungie and the community throughout:

Dylan Gafner was a tremendous Senior CM, who kept the relationship with fans thriving over the years, leaving many players disappointed today. However, it was nice to see how much support Gafner received, nonetheless.

While the Community Manager position may not sound too important to younger or casual gamers, their responsibilities ultimately establish trust with the fans. Smart, open, and friendly communication can be especially helpful for games like Destiny 2, which has had an extremely long lifespan. It has also built a loyal and massive fanbase.

But Destiny 2 in particular has seen a lot of ups and downs, so maintaining that standard has surely been a huge undertaking. For example, Destiny 2 recently released the brand-new Season of Seraph trailer, and like every other season, it’s been met with an equal share of excitement and backlash.

The lore of Destiny 2 is remarkably dense, so it’s always great to see the story expand. But many fans have been frustrated by recycled content. People look to voices like Dylan Gafner for answers, reminders of what they love about the game, and what fans can look forward to.

Hopefully, the new Senior Community Manager will be able to successfully continue Gafner’s hard work, and keep the future looking bright for Bungie.
