Call of Duty has just officially confirmed recent rumors that Lara Croft of the Tomb Raider franchise will be joining the game, according to a new tweet. An official release date for the character has not been confirmed yet. However, the Twitter feed did include a very small promo that combines the iconic franchises:
Lara Croft may not align with some of the other recently teased additions, but she will certainly be a welcome one for Call of Duty. The character found tremendous success in the latest survival trilogy from Crystal Dynamics, which also influenced the 2018 film adaptation.
The Tomb Raider franchise plans on pressing onward with plenty of new material, following the announcement last December that Crystal Dynamics would be partnering with Amazon Games on the next game in the series.
Lara Croft herself is no stranger to crossovers, as fans were happy to see a collaboration with PowerWash Simulator back in January. The character remains very bankable, and thanks to her action hero status, Croft will also fit the Call of Duty mold.
Lara Croft may be best known for her classic twin pistols, and the survival trilogy loved making the entire world fall apart for some intense platforming. But there were also plenty of shootouts and muddy stealth kills in those recent installments of the series, which certainly has the same gritty attitude that Call of Duty fans would expect.
In fact, Croft feels like much less of a novelty than other collaborations, which at one point went so far as to include a Godzilla vs. Kong event inspired by the Monsterverse films. Hopefully, Call of Duty will also clear up exactly which visual iteration of Croft will be added to the game.
