Call of Duty finally updated players about the much-anticipated Operation Monarch, an event and limited time mode that will feature both Godzilla and Kong.
Here’s the latest tweet, depicting Godzilla’s famous atomic breath:
Letting Call of Duty step into Godzilla territory has had many fans frustrated, curious, or even both. It’s similar to the effect that Rainbow Six Extraction had when it introduced aliens. But the monsterverse continues to succeed, so this LTM tie-in is sure to draw in some new audiences.
Operation Monarch Event details
“Operation Monarch” is both the name of the event and the LTM. They are scheduled to run between May 11th and May 25th.
The overall event will reward players for collecting intel, completing challenges, or even just playing the game. Players can earn new charms, stickers, emblems, calling cards and sprays.
There will even be some secret rewards involving the Titans. Bundles available for purchase include tracer packs for Godzilla, Kong, and the hotly anticipated Mechagodzilla.
Limited Time Mode details
The official blog post begins with an amusing “tale of the tape”, as though Godzilla and Kong are in an actual tournament. But it also explains how they’ll affect the game.
Godzilla will fire his atomic breath onto the map, and will work the same way that Precision Airstrikes do. You’ll have some red indicators on the mini-map, but mere seconds to escape the beam.
Kong is more of an accidental problem and doesn’t directly attack anyone. But since Kong moves around the island, touching him at any point will down players.
The LTM will feature 60 players and a Resurgence rule set, and is officially compared to the Power Grab LTM. But this time, players will collect Monarch intel through supply boxes or attacking Godzilla and Kong.
However, at the beginning of the match, and sometime later, both Godzilla and Kong will unleash a Titan Frenzy.
While you can run from this attack, the squad that deals the most damage to them during this phase will earn a “S.C.R.E.A.M. Device” that allows you to use either of the titans’ primary attacks anywhere on Caldera. Fortunately, a cooldown prevents players from spamming these giant attacks.
