Capcom has revealed its intention to raise the starting salary for new graduates in Japan beginning on April 1, 2025 (fiscal year 2025). The monthly base pay will increase by 27.7%, from ¥235,000 ($1,573.93 USD) to ¥300,000 ($2,009.21 USD). This decision aligns with Capcom’s investment in its Human Resources strategy. Apparently, this may be competitive pay that can help retain talent.

According to a notice from Capcom, several changes have been made to employee compensation since 2022. These include an average 30% increase in base salaries for current staff and the addition of bonuses tied to company performance. This includes a stock-based compensation plan for employees. While it may seem weird in the USA because $2,000 a month is not enough to live off of, in Japan, this is far more than enough.

The cost of living for a single person in Japan is $847 before rent, which can be $200 to $300 if you just want a standard apartment in a city. This is 31% lower than the USA, so $2,000 monthly is a very competitive salary. In addition to the initial salary raise, Capcom plans to give a one-time special payment to current employees to recognize their contributions to the company. This plan includes those hired in fiscal year 2024. Additionally, all employees are anticipated to receive an average salary increase of over 5% in fiscal year 2024.

Capcom feels like a really high-end business to work at. The addition of the low cost of living in the country helps this a lot. Through these actions, Capcom is working to improve its game development and technology capabilities, aiming to increase its corporate value.

This improves my opinion of Capcom. It looks like the games it makes are doing well. The company seems focused on creating high-quality games and promoting a positive work environment by investing in its employees. It seems like the perfect strategy.
