Palia, the highly anticipated free-to-play MMO from developer Singularity 6, has released a new cinematic to coincide with today’s release of the Closed Beta. The trailer follows Jina, who discovers a mysterious artifact and chases it across Kilima Village.
Palia has not confirmed a full release date, though the Nintendo product page currently has a release slated for Holiday 2023. You can watch today’s cinematic trailer on the official Palia YouTube channel.
The devs previously explored a wide variety of key mechanics like building, customization, multiplayer and more in a first look showcase that was revealed last month.
Palia will be free to play, and it boasts a very cute, family-friendly world. But a lot of Palia’s setting and themes have seemed a little generic for the fantasy and MMO genres. So, a cinematic trailer that delves into lore could be helpful in gaining interest from curious fans.
Today’s teaser shows off some of the more creative characters, creatures and gear that Palia has to offer. There’s a better sense of adventure without the sprawling exposition about how Palia works.
With a focus on the artifact that Jina uncovers, it’s much clearer that the devs have aimed for wonder and imagination. Alongside the colorful, fast-paced tone in today’s trailer, Palia now feels more akin to the world of Disney, and that could be truly winning.
Palia looks to thrive on the freedom of playing and exploring as you see fit, and it’s crucial that today’s cinematic simply promises wholesome fun. The cute sim approach should be a defining trait that distinguishes Palia from the countless combat driven MMOs. Players will get to fish, mine, cook, garden, build homes, connect with the locals and more.
