Indie developer Massive Monster’s roguelike video game, Cult of the Lamb, is set to receive a significant free content update titled “Relics of the Old Faith” on April 24. The game, published by Devolver Digital, was initially released on August 11, 2022, for various platforms, including macOS, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
In Cult of the Lamb, players control a possessed lamb, saved from death by a mysterious entity called “The One Who Waits.” To repay their debt, the player must create a loyal following in its name. The game features randomly generated worlds with roguelike elements, where players gather resources, collect perks and weapons, fight rival cultists and non-believers, and rescue other animals to indoctrinate into their cult.
The “Relics of the Old Faith” update offers a new post-game story, deeper combat, revamped bosses and enemies, increased replayability, a photo mode, and numerous requested features. According to the developers, relics are a new combat system, with each relic granting powerful abilities for players’ crusades. The update also includes additional post-game stories, lore, replayability, challenge runs, boss rush, permadeath, and more.
Massive Monster has taken into account requests from the gaming community and has added new structures for better cult management, the ability to unlock previously missed doctrines, battle the final boss again, and pause time during crusades. They have also included new modes catering to various players, such as photo mode, purgatory challenges, tarot cards and fleeces, quests, achievements, and more accessibility options.
Although the update is free, the developers have introduced a Heretic Pack, which can be purchased to support the team. The pack offers cosmetics of the Old Faith, available at cultofthelamb.com. The developers have expressed their gratitude to the game’s devoted followers and are excited to release the update on April 24.
