Cult of the Lamb continues to flaunt the devs’ juvenile yet enjoyable sense of humor, offering up some new details about tricky gameplay mechanics that include, well, your follower’s poop.
Here’s the official tweet from PlayStation’s feed, which also includes the compatible platforms and release date:
Most of the gameplay footage that fans have seen so far has focused on dizzying combat, but it turns out that resource management will play a large role in the game too.
In Cult of the Lamb, players need to create and sustain a group of cult followers. To discover new followers and accumulate enough resources to keep them going, players must enter various dungeons to defeat monsters and enemy prophets.
Progression revolves around the followers because you draw your power from them. So, you’ll have to provide them with proper homes, and keep them fed by tending to your crops. In return, players can hold sermons to boost their power for the next dungeon crawl.
Cult of the Lamb’s biggest reveal today is undoubtedly the impact of your followers’ waste. Much like Zoo Tycoon, feces will have to be regularly cleaned. If you happen to forget about the waste, it’ll naturally cause widespread illness.
Fortunately, Cult of the Lamb will allow players to construct outhouses, silos, and janitor stations to handle larger groups. You can also repurpose stored feces to improve your farming.
It’s a nice touch that also keeps things amusing, which is one of the big selling points of the game. It’s also a strangely realistic responsibility, and one of many resource management mechanics that fans may not have expected at first glance.
While this turned away some fans, others are happy to see a more elaborate system, keeping Cult of the Lamb from feeling like any other dungeon diver.
