Cult of the Lamb, the indie adventure hit from developer Massive Monster and publisher Devolver Digital, has just revealed a series of key features that will be added in 2023’s first major update. This includes new heavy attacks and content, as well as broader technical improvements such as increasing accessibility.

A concrete release date hasn’t been confirmed, but it will be free for all players. Here’s the thread from Cult of the Lamb’s official Twitter feed:

Cult of the Lamb has proven a remarkable success, thanks to its rare combination of charming art design, sharp wit, and sheer creative volume. Aligned with Devolver Digital’s propensity for strange comedy, as seen in their recent holiday special, Cult of the Lamb blends together the best elements of multiple genres, at once making them both more accessible and satisfying.

Today’s announcements include far more information than Devolver Digital’s lengthy holiday showcase, which teased very little for all the games. Today, Cult of the Lamb showed off glimpses of the new Heavy Attacks in action, and don’t think that Fellowship of the Ring quote went unappreciated.

The tweet promises “depth” for the major update, which is pretty vague. But it seems the devs were definitely listening to the community, promising “many” requested features.

Accessibility will surely broaden the fanbase. Also, continuing to patch up little mistakes and adding new difficulty levels will be terrific for replay value.

It’s clear that Cult of the Lamb still has plenty of room to grow, and not just on the technical side. The lore and sense of humor open it up to easy DLC additions for the campaign, or even a multiplayer mode. While co-op wouldn’t necessarily fit the theme of the game, competition certainly would!
