CD Projekt Red’s sci-fi RPG has now sold more than 18 million copies worldwide since its launch in December 2020. The game continues to maintain decent legs in terms of sales, making the Polish studio faithful that new content will be received well. While much of the details about additional content is unknown, we can now assume that everything is progressing well.
Cyberpunk 2077 had many DLCs slated for post-launch, including a multiplayer expansion, but developers never got the time to complete any of them due to the release state of the game. The game’s Quest Director, Paweł Sasko, recently acknowledged that they there is still more to do with the base game as they continue working on the expansion.
“I can assure you that we are working [on an] expansion, we’re working [on] stuff for you guys besides that… that didn’t change, we are still improving the game because we are all aware there is work to be done.”
During their latest earnings call, CD Projekt Red’s Vice President, Piotr Nielubowicz, revealed the total sales numbers for Cyberpunk 2077; also shared some figures on The Witcher 3—which has surpassed 40 million in sales. They also hinted about future updates, Nielubowicz said:
“For everyone who has already walked the streets of Night City – we’re working on further DLCs as well as on a major expansion featuring a new storyline… we believe in the long-term potential of our newest release; thus, one of our priorities for 2021 was to improve Cyberpunk 2077 gameplay,”
Cyberpunk 2077 was without a doubt one of the most talked-about games in recent years, but not all of that was in good faith. The game had 12 million pre-orders, which by any means is no ordinary feat, but since then it has only managed to sell an additional 6 million copies. The game was also delisted from the official PlayStation storefront and CD Projekt Red had to issue refunds for every platform.
But CD Projekt Red wants to persist and do right, at least that’s what they’ve said so far. They recently released a next-gen patch for consoles, and the game is much more playable than it was. Cyberpunk 2077 is currently available on all major platforms, with additional content and DLCs currently planned for a 2023 release.
