Dark And Darker Arrives On Epic Games With No Word On Steam Return

The Dark and Darker studio has moved their game to Epic Games after it was taken down from Steam.

Dark and Darker, the popular fantasy dungeon crawler game, will now be available on the Epic Games Store. This was a strange development after the game was removed from Steam, followed by a legal dispute with Nexon, another Korean game company. It doesn’t look like we’ll see the end to that anytime soon.

In a Discord message, shown below, Ironmace claimed they wanted to expand the audience for Dark and Darker. This starts with its release on the Epic Games Store. There’s no set release date for the game on Epic Games. The store page currently states that Dark and Darker is “coming soon.”

“… we have started preparations on introducing Dark and Darker to a wider audience. As a first step, we are happy to announce the launch of the Dark and Darker store page on the Epic Games Store… This is a big preparatory step for us in our journey to deliver a polished product to our fans. If you have an Epic account, we encourage you to show your enthusiasm and wishlist the game. We will continue working with various partners to give our fans the best options and properly grow the community to foster a long and healthy game. Thanks to everyone for all your love and support!”

The dispute started because Ironmace, the developer of Dark and Darker, was accused of making the game using stolen code. The Dark and Darker studio apparently had many former employees from Nexon. Nexon sent Ironmace a letter telling them to stop and a DMCA takedown, which made the game temporarily unavailable on Steam. Ironmace has been fighting back against the claims.

It’s not clear when the game will return to Steam. In light of the Epic Games Store launch, Krafton, the publisher behind PUBG: Battlegrounds, has obtained the rights to create a mobile version of Dark and Darker. So it looks like the game is definitely coming to more platforms, and Krafton is confident enough in the studio to work with them. We’ll have to wait and see how this all plays out.
