Bungie has recently announced a price increase for the standalone Season Pass starting with Season of the Deep. Bungie says that this change comes as the teams continue to invest in creating Seasonal experiences for the year of Lightfall. The new pricing for Season Passes during Lightfall’s year will be as follows:

  • Season Pass: 1,000 Silver -> 1,200 Silver
  • Season Pass + 10 Ranks Bundle: 2,000 Silver -> 2,200 Silver

The developers will be evaluating new approaches to post-launch content in the year of The Final Shape. The pricing for Lightfall’s standard edition and the Lightfall + Annual Pass edition will remain unchanged.

The increase in the Destiny 2 Season Pass price can be seen as a mixed bag for players. On one hand, it is understandable that developers need to invest in creating compelling Seasonal experiences, and adjusting the pricing may be necessary to support this. However, it is concerning that there is no option to purchase exactly 1,200 Silver, potentially leading to overspending and leftover currency.

This could be seen as a predatory tactic, as players are encouraged to purchase higher-value Silver bundles, ultimately spending more than they intended to. For example, a player may end up purchasing 1,500 Silver, which leads to leftover currency and the temptation to buy more Silver in order to use it all. In this way, the new pricing structure may be more about increasing revenue than improving the game experience, which can leave players feeling exploited.

In addition to the price increase, Destiny 2 will also introduce several quality of life updates in Season 21. These updates include boosted Triumphs for legacy content with randomly dropped Exotic weapons, bringing them up to the standard for raids and dungeons. Existing Triumphs have been retroactively updated, so players who have already completed the requisite Triumphs will immediately benefit from the boost.

Furthermore, as part of an ongoing effort to simplify the game’s economy, Destiny 2 will no longer drop Finest Matterweave and Rainmaker consumable items starting in Season 21. Instead, players will receive 1 Enhancement Core and 3,000 Glimmer respectively. All existing instances of these items in players’ inventories can be consumed for their associated materials.

Vanguard bounties will also receive updates, making them more user-friendly. Existing daily bounties now require twice as many kills to complete but can be done anywhere in the game. Progress will be increased in Vanguard Ops or Nightfalls. New bounties have also been added, such as killing elites, mini-bosses, and Champions. Repeatable bounties have also been revised, with increased requirements for killing specific enemy types, and a new repeatable bounty for fireteam kills in a Vanguard activity has been introduced.

Lastly, Archie will make a return in Season 21 with the re-introduction of the Good Boy Protocol stat tracker. This tracker will now be found in the Account/Career category, and progress from Season 19 will carry over.
