Destiny 2 The Witch Queen expansion introduces weapon crafting for the first time. Here's everything you need to know about it.
Weapon Crafting Destiny

Destiny 2’s much-awaited next expansion, The Witch Queen, brings in a slew of new content that should excite both long term fans and newcomers excited to venture into the Destiny universe.

Aside from a new campaign which Bungie claim is the “definitive Destiny campaign”, The Witch Queen launches with Season of the Risen, a new weapon archetype called “Glaive”, and introduces weapon crafting for the first time. Weapon crafting has the potential to evolve Destiny 2’s core gameplay loop, and here’s our step by step guide on how it actually works.

Weapon Crafting in Destiny 2

Shaped Weapons Destiny

In short, you can craft weapons by acquiring weapon patterns (blueprints) in Destiny 2 by completing quests and various in-game activities and bringing those patterns to craft weapons in a new area called Enclave. The crafting materials required to craft weapons alongside patterns is unknown at the time of this writing. The first two missions of The Witch Queen campaign will introduce you to Enclave, a new base of operations on the planet Mars.

In theory, this sounds simple though Destiny is infamous for introducing a multitude of crafting materials with every new expansion, farming which can not just be tedious but also incredibly confusing. From what it seems, The Witch Queen will be no different. To craft weapons with specific traits, you will need a new ability called Deepsight Resonance.

Crafting Weapons with Specific Weapon Traits

Crafting Weapons With Specific Traits Destiny

Deepsight Resonance weapons are your regular weapons of any rarity but with an optional objective tied to them. You will gain them randomly through quests and various-in game activities. You can recognize these weapons in your inventory with their red borders. The objective includes using the weapon in different in-game activities to attune it, which would then allow you to extract that weapon’s perk and apply it to the weapon you craft. According to Bungie, “if you find a Deepsight Resonance Legendary Auto Rifle with the Rampage perk, you can complete an objective and extract the essence of the perk to then craft a weapon with Rampage or another perk that increases damage.”

It’s a neat process to craft and earn the weapon with the perks of your desire instead of hoping to earn that same weapon with those perks through random rollouts. However, it’s important to note that certain weapon perks won’t apply to certain weapons. You can also modify or reshape your weapon perks, including traits.

Aside from legendary weapons, you can also craft exotic weapons. The ones that are confirmed so far are the Osteo Striga Exotic SMG (coming in The Witch Queen) and the class-specific unnamed exotic glaives(also coming in The Witch Queen).

Upgrading your crafted weapons

Weapon Level Destiny

You can also upgrade your crafted weapons. Similar to how masterworking works, you can improve the different stats and traits of your weapons. The Witch Queen introduces weapon levelling. You level up your crafting weapons by killing enemies. According to Bungie, “The more you use your weapon, the faster you’ll unlock its full potential.”

That concludes our guide on weapon crafting in Destiny 2 The Witch Queen. Make sure to check out the Destiny 2 section. Bungie has yet to give us a more concrete look at how different aspects of crafting will come together. Thankfully, we won’t have to wait much longer to find it out for yourselves as The Witch Queen launches on February 22, 2022, for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
