The latest Nintendo Direct just went live, sharing exciting news about various titles coming to Nintendo Switch soon. Among the highlights of this showcase is the reveal of the long-awaited sequel to the original 2018 game, Detective Pikachu Returns.

Detective Pikachu, developed by Creatures Inc. and published by Nintendo and The Pokémon Company for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems, is an adventure game spin-off of the Pokémon franchise. Released in 2018, this game introduces fans to the talking Pikachu and Tim Goodman, two detectives embarking on an adventure to solve various mysteries together. In May 2019, a live-action film adaptation of Detective Pikachu premiered and in that same year, a sequel was announced for the Nintendo Switch.

Finally, it was revealed today that the sequel, titled Detective Pikachu Returns, is set to launch on October 6th, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch. The announcement was accompanied by a fascinating trailer, providing a glimpse into the new adventure that awaits players, with Tim Goodman and the talkative Pikachu reuniting for an array of exciting quests and mysteries to unravel.

As revealed from the trailer, the game is set once again in the vibrant Ryme City. The events seems to begin during the city’s celebration of Pokémon friendship week, a joyous occasion promoting an even stronger bond between the people and Pokémon of the city. Although other details about this new adventure remain undisclosed, it was hinted that Tim and Pikachu will work together with various other Pokémon as they solve the mysteries surrounding the city.

So far, the sequel seems to have undergone enhancements compared to the original in terms of graphics. Furthermore, it is noticeable that some changes in character design have been made, most notably in Tim Goodman’s current appearance.

For those who wish to be notified when Detective Pikachu becomes available, the game is available to wishlist now on the Nintendo eShop.
