Dreams, the creative game platform exclusive to PlayStation 4, will not be receiving a port to PlayStation 5 despite a confirmed build existing internally at developer Media Molecule. Industry insider Lance McDonald revealed this news during a recent livestream, citing the studio’s shift in focus to a new project and layoffs last year as the primary reasons for the cancellation.
We had previously reported on the leak, but now we have full confirmation that there was a Dreams PS5 port. Eurogamer stated that a developer from Media Molecule confirmed to them that there was a port for PlayStation 5 made. Unfortunately, there are no plans for the port to see the light of day.
“Dreams actually already runs on PlayStation 5 – there you go, that’s the scoop. But that’s just us being devs and exploring. I’d be lying to you if I said we weren’t going to explore, but there’s literally zero plans at the moment.”

While rumors of a Dreams PS5 port circulated since the console’s launch, Media Molecule had always maintained that while the game ran on the new hardware for testing purposes, there were no official plans for a public release. McDonald’s claims suggest a near-complete port was indeed in development, potentially featuring ray tracing capabilities, but ultimately shelved due to internal restructuring.
While the PS4 version will remain playable, the cancellation of the PS5 port and live service shutdown signifies a shift in priorities for the development team. Media Molecule has yet to reveal details about their new project, leaving the future of the Dreams platform uncertain for players hoping for wider accessibility.
This news will undoubtedly disappoint PlayStation fans eagerly awaiting a Dreams experience on the latest hardware. Media Molecule is great at building systems that allow players to express their creativity, but LittleBigPlanet’s Creation Mode and Dreams never went beyond just being released to the public. We don’t doubt that a PC port may have taken things to the next stage, with games being made that took the world by storm, but now we’ll never know.
