Indie game publisher Devolver Digital continues to expand its roster of acquired studios, adding doinksoft to the list, which includes Croteam, Dodge Roll, Nerial, and Firefly Studios. Doinksoft, known for developing games such as Gato Roboto, Demon Throttle, and Devolver Bootlegs, is currently working on the upcoming title Gunbrella.
The announcement of the acquisition was made on Devolver Digital’s Twitter account, welcoming the talented team at doinksoft to the Devolver family. Initially focusing on high-definition remakes of games in the Serious Sam series, Devolver Digital found success and began publishing games from smaller independent studios, with Hotline Miami being one of their first breakout titles. As of January 2020, the company employs 20 people and went public on the Alternative Investment Market in November 2021.
Gunbrella, doinksoft’s current project, is a noir-punk action-adventure game set in a world grappling with a rapidly diminishing natural resource. Players take on the role of a woodsman seeking revenge, armed with a unique weapon known as the Gunbrella, which functions as both a firearm and an umbrella. The game features side-scrolling action combat, resource management, and exploration of diverse locations while uncovering the supernatural mysteries within the game world. It is scheduled for release at some point in 2023.
Gato Roboto, one of doinksoft’s earlier titles, is an adventure game where players control a cat inside a mech suit, navigating an alien underworld to save a stranded captain and his crashed spaceship. The game encourages players to step out of the mech suit and explore the environment using their feline instincts, discovering new weapons and gear along the way.
With the acquisition of doinksoft, Devolver Digital further solidifies its position in the indie gaming industry, providing a platform for innovative games and talented developers.
