Devolver Digital just teased some upcoming news with a clever, brash and promising new trailer.

Devolver Digital has just posted a new trailer, filled with non-stop meta humor, ahead of upcoming announcements for various games and Cult of the Lamb. All of the reveals are scheduled for June 9th, 3 PM pacific time.

You can watch the full trailer here, which is surprisingly long and self-aware:

Devolver Digital has recently expanded their playerbase with Trek to Yomi, the brilliant Akira Kurosawa-inspired side-scroller, and Gunbrella just got a release trailer three weeks ago.

But Cult of the Lamb will surely be the star of the show, given its delicious absurdity and dark humor. Players take the role of a possessed lamb that must repay the debt of their resurrection by starting a devoted cult.

Only that kind of game could possibly have devs like Devolver Digital, whose slick trailer pinpoints and ribs all of the shameless marketing ploys of their peers.

This includes the countdown trailer and its budget that Devolver Digital released itself, which lasts nearly three minutes. It also uses just about every kind of corporate buzz word imaginable, for the sake of a great joke. Acknowledging the behavior is the only real way to get away with participating.

After all, the teaser does close by mentioning that the host on June 9th will be Suda51, the famous video game designer.

Goichi Suda is probably best known for the classic hack-and-slash sesries No More Heroes, which just saw its third installment release in 2021. Devolver Digital made up for the fact that Suda will simply be Zooming in by putting his face in a needlessly elaborate mecha suit.

Of course, the Rated-R language in the trailer is pretty unique, and definitely caters to their demographic. Indie devs not only get away with more risks, they need to take more to stand out, and Devolver Digital is definitely keeping up the pace.
