Blizzard has delayed the fourth season of Diablo 4 until May 14th, one month later than initially planned. The current season, Season of the Construct, will be extended to the same date to accommodate the delay. Blizzard decided to incorporate player feedback from the upcoming Season 4 Public Test Realm (PTR).
The Public Test Realm (PTR) is set to run from April 2nd to 9th and will only be accessible on PC Battle.net. Blizzard stated that focusing on this platform will make it easier for them to make changes quickly. They also mentioned the possibility of making the PTR available on other platforms in the future. You can hear about it in detail from the long Campfire Chat about it.
Season 4 of Diablo 4 will significantly change the game’s core mechanics and progression systems. The focus will primarily be on itemization, specifically the loot system (thanks, Eurogamer). Blizzard’s goal is to decrease the abundance of less impactful loot drops in favor of a smaller number of more significant items. This change aims to enhance players’ sense of power progression and attachment to items.
Blizzard is making some changes to the game. They are reducing the number of random stat buffs on Legendary and Rare items. They are adding a new crafting system called Tempering, which will let players add specific stat buffs to their gear using Tempering Manuals. Additionally, there will be a late-game system called Masterworking, allowing players to upgrade their existing stat buffs.
Other updates are being made, including changes to endgame activities, class-specific item drops, expanded trading options, integration of legendary aspects into the Codex of Power, and more.
Blizzard is focusing on taking in feedback from the community. The delay in Season 4 and the longer PTR period show how much the studio wants to give players a season that meets their expectations. Hopefully, things go well because Diablo 4 is still riding high despite some setbacks.
