Paleo Pines, an upcoming dinosaur adventure and farming sim from developer Italic Pig and publisher Modus Games has just been announced with a new gameplay trailer.
Although an exact release date was not confirmed, the trailer description sets a release window for next autumn, so it should be expected between September and November 2023. It will be available on PC, Nintendo Switch, and current or last-gen PlayStation and Xbox consoles. You can watch the full announcement trailer on the Paleo Pines YouTube channel:
Paleo Pines is almost certain to win over fans of the sim genre with its theme alone. The opportunity to discover, befriend, and ride around on dinosaurs sounds like a breezy delight.
The dinosaurs are cute and colorful, which is a perfect fit for the casual tone of most farming sims. Today’s trailer also showcases a nice variety of behavior and interactions. The game’s brand manager Ellen Plummer even noted in an Xbox blog that the devs took a realistic approach to the dinosaur depictions, adding an educational appeal.
There’s a surprising depth to Paleo Pines, which borrows elements from a lot of familiar games, but spins them in a satisfying way. The art design and island community line right up with Animal Crossing, while the sanctuary building and dinosaur tending feel like streamlined Jurassic World Evolution ideas. Exploring and finding new dinosaurs has elements of Pokémon.
Paleo Pines feels meticulously balanced, and it features mechanics that make the most of its theme. It truly feels like an obvious title that should have existed already. Although the gameplay and imagery skews toward younger players, enthusiasts of all ages should enjoy Paleo Pines as a relaxing dinosaur experience.
