Paleo Pines, an upcoming dinosaur-themed farming sim from developer Italic Pig and publisher Modus games, has released a new gameplay overview trailer featuring the basic premise, character customization, farming crops, befriending new dinosaurs and more.
Paleo Pines is scheduled to launch on September 26th, 2023. It will be available on PC, Nintendo Switch, and current or last-gen Xbox and PlayStation consoles. You can watch today’s gameplay overview on the Modus Games YouTube channel:
Today’s trailer explores the surprising variety of mechanics in Paleo Pines. This game had every opportunity to rely on its theme and cute art design alone. Instead, the devs provide some very traditional sim mechanics. This approach refuses to pander to younger players, like many other cozy sims. As a result, Paleo Pines feels more accessible for dinosaur and sim enthusiasts of all ages.
There’s a sense of teamwork with the dinosaurs, who can actually help with your responsibilities thanks to “helper abilities”. This creates a closer relationship with your dinosaurs.
Similarly, it was very clever to link progression with dinosaur abilities. This will also give your dinosaurs them value. Players will feel naturally encouraged to explore and expand, but the pace of the game won’t be significantly altered.
The farming aspects of the game also have great synergy with the dinosaur theme, because the proper treats will allow players to both care for their existing sanctuary and winning over additions. Since different dinosaurs have their own tastes, it gives them personality, and players will have more to manage over time.
Overall, the mechanics revealed in today’s trailer hint at a very smooth, friendly, and balanced gameplay loop. The breakdown is sure to win over anyone who may have been concerned Paleo Pines would be too simple, based on the aesthetics.
