The action RPG Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden, developed by Don’t Nod, may have its story expanded in the future. Narrative Director Stéphane Beauverger mentioned that while there is no confirmed sequel at the moment, the studio always considers the possibility. This matches the open-ended nature of the game’s story, which includes multiple endings.

Beauverger shared Don’t Nod’s approach to their games in an interview with MP1st. He stated that they always view their titles as the beginning of a series. He mentioned that considering potential follow-up games within the same world is a key part of his role as Narrative Director. However, he also pointed out that decisions regarding sequels are not solely up to the creative team, indicating that factors such as commercial success could impact development decisions.

The potential for a sequel has led to questions about which of the four endings in Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden would be chosen as the official continuation of the story. This storytelling approach offers a strong base for exploring new directions in a possible follow-up.

“We always consider our games as the first step of a franchise. As a Narrative director, it is part of my job to think ahead about future possible games taking place in the same universe. But such decisions are not made only by creative teams, more teams are included in the process!”

Stéphane Beauverger

Don’t Nod’s positive stance on a potential Banishers sequel good news for fans who liked the game’s mix of action and storytelling. The studio’s focus on the possibility of creating more games suggests they see Banishers as the beginning of a larger series. While the reception of the first game will surely influence the final verdict, the groundwork for continuing the Banishers story is in place. We love the game, as you can see in our review.

The article in MP1st also mentioned that Don’t Nod is not in favor of adding a New Game+ feature to Banishers. They believe it would not provide significant benefits. This at least shows that the studio is considering the future of Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden. They’re considering whether to add more content to the current game or develop a new installment in the franchise.
