Bandai Namco has just announced the release of the sixth DLC for Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, titled “Goku’s Next Journey.” This expansion explores the story after the battle with Kid Buu, revisiting the final episode of Dragon Ball Z a decade later. Many fans will remember this part of the show, but it’s hard to imagine it’s still canon.
According to a PlayStation Blog article, the spotlight is again on the Martial Arts World Tournament, drawing Earth’s warriors together. You’ll encounter familiar faces, all grown up, along with Goku’s spirited granddaughter, Pan. Goku’s Next Journey faithfully recreates iconic moments from the series and adds original dialogue, storylines, and more content, just like previous DLCs. We all remember this as when Goku leaves his family to train Uub and leads up to Dragon Ball GT.
Before I describe more, there is a glaring question of whether this is canon. The events of GT are no longer canon, but Goku’s journey with Uub is on mixed territory because it leads to those events. We’ll see where things go from here, but seeing how Super will affect this part of the storyline would be interesting.
Players can immerse themselves in new sub-quests offering unique rewards beyond the main tournament arc. One example is “A Day in the Krillin Household,” where you’re tasked with retrieving 18’s lost necklace after her daughter Marron returns from shopping. This quest provides a glimpse into the daily lives and dynamics between beloved characters in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot’s style.
The quest is unique because its epilogue focuses on the characters’ emotions. This aligns with Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot’s core value of exploring epic battles and the characters’ relationships and inner lives. It shows 18 expressing her true feelings for Krillin by recovering a necklace, offering a fresh perspective on the Dragon Ball world. Honestly, it’s that filler that most fans love because it gives you background information and a story.
