Drop Dead: The Cabin VR, the recently launched zombie shooter from developer and publisher Soul Assembly, has just released details on the first upcoming content update.

It will feature new difficulties like “Nightmare” mode, and a new zone set in 20th century mines. Naturally, there will also be a variety of bug fixes and improvements for general quality of life issues. The new update is “coming this spring”, according to a new tweet from the game’s official feed:

Drop Dead: The Cabin VR has received a lot of praise for its brisk gameplay, coop mechanics, and the smoothness of its virtual world. However, one of the major drawbacks in the game is definitely the lack of content.

The gameplay loop is very fast paced, which is fun in the short run. But it also draws attention to the limited number of environments to explore, and the familiar premise seemed to write players into a corner. Fortunately, it seems there were plans to expand this world, and let it breathe a little more.

A mining area should prove to be a very satisfying addition. After all, it is a naturally claustrophobic and dangerous setting. So, if the devs can get creative with map traversal, there will be plenty of opportunities for new obstacles, hidden loot, and so forth. Mines are also popular within the horror genre already. There’s an opportunity here to create the kind of tension seen in The Descent.

The difficulty modes are also welcome, and they should make the game more accessible. It’s a little odd they weren’t readily available, but there may have been some intent for some kind of classic arcade experience, which is always neutral and challenging.
