Dragonheir: Silent Gods, an upcoming open world and strategy RPG from developer SgraStudio and publisher Nuverse, is officially getting a leg up on launch thanks to an official collaboration with Dungeons & Dragons.
According to today’s new trailer description, “a series of iconic characters” and locations from Dungeons & Dragons are going to gradually be patched into Dragonheir: Silent Gods over the course of two years via seasonal updates.
Although an exact release date has not been confirmed, Dragonheir: Silent Gods is expected to launch sometime in the second half of this year. You can watch the new collaboration trailer on IGN’s YouTube channel here:
Dragonheir: Silent Gods doesn’t look or feel like the most inventive game, and even its lore should sound pretty familiar. Between non-linear missions and an open world, a lot of the game is built around player freedom, too. It will likely rely on sheer density, and there is a staggering volume of mechanics.
Dungeons & Dragons remains one of the most influential, elaborate, and creative worlds in the RPG genre. Dragonheir: Silent Gods seems very much like a basic riff on that universe, so a legitimate collaboration is going to do wonders. It transforms the context of the game, justifying and elevating it.
But it likely wouldn’t have been possible if there wasn’t enough to warrant the crossover to begin with, so hopefully there’s more to Dragonheir: Silent Gods than it seems. Very little has been revealed just yet, and it may be best to reserve judgment.
Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves was an emotionally sincere story with a great sense of humor, which managed to make its mythology more accessible for new generations of RPG fans. Now is certainly the perfect time to cash in on the IP. It will be a delight to see which locations and characters can be revisited with Dragonheir: Silent Gods’ mechanics.
