Inflexion Games, the developer of Nightingale, recently announced a postponement in the game’s Early Access launch. Originally scheduled for an earlier debut, the game is now set for release in the Fall of 2023.
In a video update, Aaryn Flynn, CEO of Inflexion Games, clarified that the decision to defer the launch was rooted in the desire to refine the game based on player feedback and ensure the health of their development team. He noted that the player feedback they have been receiving has been invaluable, and the additional time will allow the team to continue making progress without compromising the team’s wellbeing.
With the extension of time, the developers plan to make several quality of life enhancements, including crafting bench animations, tuning progression and pacing, and working to make the Realms feel as mystical and amazing as possible.
Flynn further revealed that the additional time would enable the team to upgrade the game to Unreal Engine 5.2. While this isn’t the primary reason for the delay, it does offer the opportunity to integrate the new features from the engine into Nightingale.
In a response to potential disappointment from eager players, Flynn expressed his gratitude for the community’s patience. He ensured that the team would continue to prioritize playtesting and community feedback, and promised an exact release date announcement later in the summer.
Maribel and Steph, two other team members, elaborated on the recent developments. They mentioned that the next playtest, initially planned for the end of May, has been delayed due to technical issues. However, they have increased the number of invites from 7,000 to between 10,000 and 12,000, inviting more players to join the playtest.
The team also highlighted some of the game’s latest additions. Nightingale now features workbenches with various functions, including crafting and refining materials. Workbenches can be upgraded by placing compatible decorations nearby, creating unique traits that can either buff or debuff the bench. Other additions include new creatures, such as the Hexham Mongrel, Elephas, and Leporidon, further enriching the game’s biodiversity.
