After the initial release in September 2021, eFootball 2022 has now received its first “major” overhaul—one of many the game currently needs. The update is set to add new game modes, licenses, and control settings, with the first season beginning as early as April 21st.
Last year, Konami announced that they’d no longer be releasing their premium sports franchise yearly after having already gone on a year-long hiatus. The publisher subsequently announced that they were rebranding their games to eFootball from PES, and also shifting away from premium releases to free to play.
When the game was first released, it severely failed to meet any expectations and was considered one of the worst games of 2021. Despite the initial lukewarm and overwhelmingly negative response, Konami vowed to deliver a game that fans wished for, and here is the first major update to get a step closer.

Everything added in the latest 1.0.0 version of eFootball 2022.
The update will bring a brand new game mode called “Dream Team.” The mode—as the name itself suggests—is all about building your dream team. Along with signing the players that fit one’s playstyle, the dream team mode has five different playstyles: possession game, quick counter, long ball, counter long ball, and out wide.
There are other gameplay enhancements, like the addition of a new “stunning kick” technique that’ll make goal scoring and passing even smoother. There is also a new batch of official licenses for teams and players, meaning that the game will now have more authentic team names instead of bogus ones thanks to a lack of license agreements previously.
There will also be seasons that’ll run for a limited time, with one starting next month. Other improvements include both graphical and performance enhancements across the board. And of course, what’s a major update without some rewards? Players will receive the following rewards once they log in:
- Veteran’s Bonuses for playing eFootball PES 2021 SEASON UPDATE and LITE to eFootball 2022
- Rewards earned during the ‘Pre-season Match Campaign’ in eFootball 2022.
eFootball 2022 is currently available for PC and consoles, with update 1.0.0 already live. You can read the entire patch notes on Konami’s official website.
