On April 1st, 2024, the official Twitter account of Bandai Namco US shared a lighthearted joke related to the Elden Ring fanbase’s anticipation for more content. It’s one of those jokes that is so dumb it’s funny, and so it landed on the mark.
The tweet contained a brief video featuring the words ‘Elden Ring Expansion’ overlaid on a cloudy sky backdrop. The text comically extended well beyond the video’s boundaries, showing the expansion is literally the words we see expanded. This is a good way to get a bunch of people because it took me watching it all the way through to realize it wasn’t going to do anything but expand.
Don’t blame me, there was legitimate music that makes you think that something is coming. Adding dramatic background music to the video, followed by an anticlimactic reveal, made me laugh and was definitely one of the best pranks I saw. The comments seem to agree too. However, what should have tipped us all off is the fact that the ‘expansion’ wording isn’t even the same font as Elden Ring. It’s obviously just something that looks kind of like it. However, you get caught up before you see the details.
It’s a lame joke that is only funny because of how seriously everyone takes expansion reveals. This was top tier posting from the social media manager and I think they deserve praise for it. It’s Opera GX level tweeting. We likely won’t get anything else from any expansion coming, so we’ll have to deal with this until a real reveal comes.
